Have you ever wanted to hear a certain song but realized you don't have it synced or stored on your phone? Wanted to play a song for a friend and realized it's still on your computer at home? Subsonic recognizes these problems and brings your music collection to you no matter WHERE you are!

The Subsonic Media Server installs on all major Operating Systems (Windows, Mac, Linux and Unix) and allows you to stream your music collection to anyplace with internet access. The Subsonic server allows access via any web browser, an Adobe Air application or Android phone. Access your music library on the go has never been easier!

Donation gives you a custom URL to access your music library (for example http://yourusername.subsonice.org

Cons:

  • Server setup can be a little difficult but most questions are answere in the forum
The Android app requires a donation after 30 days to continue using the service

I've been using Subsonic for about 6 months now and can't image life without it! With over 100 GB of music in my collection it's impossible to keep it all stored on my phone all the time (16GB is big, but not that big!) but with Subsonic I don't have to worry about what's on my phone or not. Just open the app, download or stream and keep rockin' out!

Download the server and the app and give them a try!

Read somewhere that Subsonic actually doesn't stream the music but downloads to a cache on the SD card. Is this true?
And if it is: can adjust the max size of the cache? In other words: will it slowly fill up my SD as I use it so I have to delete music files manually to create enough space?

This streams very effectively. Search is worthless from what I can see. I searched "Beatles" and found nothing? It's most of my collection. Fail.

Exactly what method does it use for sorting? Now I admit my song id's aren't updated... but my file names are perfect. It looks like a hodge podge of stuff randomly thrown together.

So basically, since search is worthless and the method of sort is random, you cannot find a song you're looking for. Beyond that, it's a great app and I mean that sincerely.
