Substituting for T-Mobile?

The only thing preventing me from grabbing either the G1 or the MyTouch is the fact that T-Mobile is the only sold service.

They're much more expensive than other similar providers, and they have no 3g where I live, while most every other carrier does.

Is there any way that I would be able to swap out the SIM card and us the 3G/2G networking of that carrier on the G1?

My idea is to buy one off Ebay, which would come without the plan, and then slap a Sprint or AT&T sim card in it.

Is this possible?

Sprint doesn't use sim cards. If you buy a G1, you could immediately unlock it on ebay for $20-25 and activate it on AT&T. Make sure you have a data plan.

Thanks for the reply.

What do you mean 'unlock it on Ebay'? Is it a code of some sort?

And also, can I do the same on a MyTouch?

There is a subsidy enlock code. for all phones that use a sim card. If you don't have the code to enter on the handset, you are unable to use another provider's sim card in that phone. Same thing w/ the mytouch 3g.
