Suggestions on what to do with an unused Galaxy Note 5

Hey there, new to this forum and Android in general. Just switched from iPhone and I'm pretty much liking it better.

Here's my device info:

1.) Model Number ? SM-N920V
2.) Firmware Version ? Not Sure (6.0.1, would that be it?)
3.) Baseband Version ? N920VVRU3BPJ3
4.) Kernel Version ? 3.10.61
5.) Build Number ? MMB29K.N920VVRU3BPJ3

Now to my questions. In my quest to root a Verizon Galaxy Note 5, I've come across conflicting claims that it can AND cannot be rooted successfully. Between looking at tutorials, videos, and the comments to each, I'm still not sure whether it's possible to do so.

A little background about this phone. My wife got water in it and the digitizer doesn't work anymore. It works just fine with the S-pen, and there's no other damage, I just can't use the touch screen. We've since switched carriers and the service has since been disconnected. We also got new phones and so this phone has just been sitting inside a drawer for the past 3 months. So I figured, might as well do something with it instead of just letting slowly die in solitary confinement. So my questions are:

1) Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I can do with this phone?

2) Is it, or is it not possible to root this particular phone?

3) Is it possible to install Kali Linux in this phone without having to root/unlock it?

4) If not, should I buy a Raspberry Pi and try to do some fun stuff with it and this phone?

5) Should I Cool Hand Luke-it and put it back in the box?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
