I'm curious about whether this is needed. I am rooted (via the first Towelroot release) and have replaced the version listed with 2.01 from the Play Store. I am still rooted and SuperSU correctly manages my privileges.
Possibly one has to start with the listed version.

Is SUperSU is properly managing and working then no you don't need the 1.99 if you updated it
