Help Superuser has been denied Superuser permissions

I've lost Superuser permissions for all of my applications, including Superuser itself. Superuser currently shows v3.0.7 (41) with Su binary v3.0, but I can't update the latter (I receive the error message in the thread title). Clearing application data for Superuser changes nothing, nor does SU Update Fixer, nor does setting permissions to Allow.

Root had been working fine until recently, but to tell you the truth I haven't used Titanium Backup (etc.) for anything in a while, so there's no telling when the problems began. I would assume this is associated with an Android update.

Model number SPH-D710
Android version 2.3.6
Baseband version S:D710.10 S.EK02
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EK02-CL704398
Build number GINGERBREAD.EK02
Hardware version D710.10

Any tips? I haven't found a satisfactory corrective anywhere online so far. Thanks for your help!

You said that you assume the issue is update-related?
Did you accept the EL29 OTA update? (I'm assuming you're just stock-rooted)
If so, I'd imagine the issue lies in the update. The zergrush method uses a security exploit that is plugged in EL29 (assuming you rooted with zergrush on EK02).
My only suggestion would be to make a system backup through CWM, then try to re-root using a method that works on EL29.

Received feedback in another forum that suggested I might have been switched from EG30 to EK02 with the update, which is indeed what happened. The person suggested Auto Root, option A. Would you agree? And should I simply ignore Android updates in the future?

Dont know about the rest, but yes. If you have rooted and beyond, you are no longer tied to the standard updates that sprint provides. Untill you un-root that is.
