Here's a newbie question: Is it possible to create an Android app that works in conjunction with Google Map's audible turn-by-turn directions and provides audible descriptions of points of interest during the drive?
I imagine a database of text files indexed by location information that this app would monitor during a drive. Normal turn-by-turn audio instructions from Google Maps get played but, in addition, the app uses Google's voice synth to read aloud any text file that's associated with a location near the current location of the vehicle.
It could be useful for guided tours of scenic areas, wayfinding through large parking areas, ads for local businesses, etc.
I've not heard any word from Google that the API for Google Maps would permit simultaneous apps that drew location info from Maps, but I'm not sure that something like this couldn't be hacked anyway without an open API.
Anybody have any ideas?
