Surf and Talk when using Google Voice -- why isn't it possible?

samalex

I've started using Google Voice for most of my calls to cut back on the amount of minutes I use, and honestly it's working great. But my biggest question with this is why can't I talk and surf when calling with Google Voice? I assume it would just go out over my broadband connection, whether it's using the Verizon network or my Wifi connection, which if that's the case shouldn't other Internet apps work as well?

Just curious -- Thanks,

Sam

1. Google Voice does use your minutes.
2. Google Voice does not go over your data connection, except to establish the connection (log into your account).
3. Since Google Voice uses your regular voice connection and you have Verizon service, you cannot surf and talk at the same time.

Because the phone will get wet if you fall off the surf board...sorry had to do it...

Verizon uses CDMA technology, it ensures better and more reliable connection for both Data and phone use however when you are using one the other can not be active and seeing as it is a phone the phone priority is above the data priority. So when you are using the voice priority your signal is 100% dedicated to that voice priority.
