It is surprisingly easy to surprise someone. To make someone smile and bring some happiness in a day. It doesn't cost much money or effort.
Like a smile. Or not just asking 'how are you today?' but by asking a next question, showing you truly listened to the answer. By calling someone you haven't talked with in a while, saying 'I was just thinking about you'. Sending a paper postcard. Hugs don't cost a cent.
Or by bringing a flower/flowers. Like my man just did :D:thumbup::D

Have you been surprised today, or better yet... have you surprised anyone today?

No, nobody has really done anything nice for me in a while. I just stopped trying to be so nice to people because I don't get much appreciation anymore.

Okay, as unlikely as it seems, this is a true story. So, here goes:

One day at the bus stop, on the way home from work, I ran into an old co-worker from a few years ago. It took me a while to remember him, but I'm glad I finally did. Afterwards, we started chatting and reminiscing about how things were at the job back in the day.

When the bus arrived a few minutes later, a girl that was sitting on the bench besides him forgot her smartphone as she was heading for the bus. So I picked it up and handed it to her after getting on. She said she appreciated me for this. But this also reminded the former co-worker not to leave his iPhone behind as well.

As the bus was heading towards Downtown, I had another pleasant conversation with the former co-worker. As we were approaching his stop, out of the blue, he gave me $20 and thanked me for reminding him to pick up his iPhone. That left me in a bit of a shock.

I asked him, "Are you sure? I couldn't accept this." But he kept insisting anyway. At that point, I just took the money and thanked him for it. It was actually a blessing in disguise too since I was broke that day.

Then he left. I haven't seen him again since. I wonder what he's up to now?

I've sent hardcopy postcards to some friends today. For no special reason. And I cannot wait for a friend to receive surprise package hubby and me made him. :D
