swapping my s3 this friday. hopefully battery issue is resolved.

over the past 2 months of owning this phone, i still love it and all its features. but the one major issue that has drove me insane was the battery life.

note: i have tried everything from "battery savers", clearing ram, using apps to find what is draining the battery (helpful to an extent but did not exactly say what app was causing the drain), battery saver options, low screen, killing mobile data.

enough was enough. i shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get ideal battery life when others are getting it right of the box. i don't go and download goofy apps either that would cause this. i don't have LTE yet, but its predicted to be running by next year.

my battery would run hot and drain within 12 hours (with less than 10% being screen time) android system would be the culprit.

i finally called AT&T, they are shipping me a new unit, should get here by friday. I will run the phone completey stock on a full charge and record the battery life, then install my usual apps and launcher and record those.

hopefully i get a longer lasting device. to those who are fed up and have tried everything. consider a replacement. mine was over the 30 day warranty and no insurance, but call AT&T directly and they will take care of you, as for other providers, no clue.

stay tuned.

did you have to send ur old one back?

i am also encountering battery issue
with the android system taking up most of the battery
although i am unsure if it is a faulty battery
cause people on forum say it takes a few weeks to get the battery to be at its full potential
i had it for two weeks now i will wait one more week before changing my mind

Truthfully I think it has something to do with atts network. I'm on att and my phone pretty much does the same thing. Not with only ten percent screen use but I could get 12 hours out of the phone if I was lucky.

Just conjecture on my part, but one reason I left AT&T...everything Android I owned in the past had to "hunt" for a connection.

All I know is that when I went with another carrier, those batt problems mostly went away...though my batt still doesn't last as long as my Droid X did. Still, love my S3!

alright so a minor update to all.

first off, thanks for the replies. i honestly hope it is not the network, because that would screw me out of $$$ to switch over.

i got my replacement yesterday. all they ship you is the unit itself without the box, battery cover, or battery itself. i threw my battery in there at 30% and ran it stock with gsam batter monitor in there.

verdict 1: low "android system" % killing the battery, which is the one good sign i was looking for.

I charged it to 100% after that, and loaded all my old apps and my nova launcher.

verdict 2: much better battery usage than the old unit. "android system" % hovered around 12% (still higher than the 8% avg.). screen time was the most used % out there which is what you want IMO. it is about to die and I am at 16 hrs. for minimal use, which still isnt that great, but way better than what I had.

I will run a few more charge cycles with screen shots, and post back.

all in all this swap so far is much better, phone isnt running hot 24/7%, no rogue apps to my knowledge yet, and ill do more research on the network situation.

thanks.

How much of that time was spent on 4G/LTE? Do you get a weak signal? If so, then that's what is draining your battery. The weaker your signal is, the more battery power the cell radio uses to maintain a solid connection.
