Switch To MetroPCS and Buy A Galaxy S8?

I'm currently a T-Mobile customer with the Simple Choice North America plan (2GB of 4G LTE) for $50.00/month and the JUMP program (handset protection and upgrades) for $12.00 per month. With taxes and fees my monthly bill is $67.11.

I'm thinking about getting the new Samsung S8 when it's available, but I don't want to buy it through T-Mobile and be locked into the higher monthly costs. I have considered waiting until May and purchasing an unlocked S8 from Best Buy. The Best Buy S8 price is $725.00 ($25.00 less than most carriers), but you give up the free Gear VR with controller, and Samsung has been slow to upgrade unlocked devices. Based on what I've read online, Metro PCS will be offering the S8 with the free Gear VR. I couldn't find a price but I'm guessing that it will be the same as T-Mobile, $750.00. Also, with Metro PCS I could get 3GB of LTE data for $40.00 per month and device protection for $6.00 per month. Since I think Metro PCS includes all taxes and fees in their pricing, my total monthly cost would be $46.00, a savings of slightly more than $21.00 per month.

Any comments or corrections will be appreciated.

Thanks for the information, Kate. I may wind up buying an unlocked S8+ from Best Buy but I still plan to switch to MetroPCS.

Bear in mind if you buy an unlocked/non-branded version it will work on T-Mo/Metro, but wifi calling won't be available as that is only enabled on the carrier branded versions.

I wound up switching to Cricket and buying the S8 from them. My total bill is $47.00 per month with Cricket Protect but Cricket coverage (AT&T) is much better in my area than MetroPCS (T-Mobile). Regardless of the carrier, I'm very happy with the S8 -- it's my old Note 7 on steroids (minus the S-Pen which I rarely used).
