Switching from Verizon (Droid X Android 2.3.4) to PP or StraightTalk

Switching to either Page Plus (The 55) or StraightTalk from Verizon. Advantage w/ PP is that I can keep my phone (Droid X Android 2.3.4 phone). Disadvantage is that it costs $10 more per month and I won't have any support on phone (e.g., updates, upgrades, etc.) I stream music and have phone set up so I can get gmail and work email on phone. I don't watch videos, movies, play games, etc. Have some, hopefully, simple questions:

1) PP or StraightTalk???? As I will be on Verizon's 2G and 3G network, quality, coverage should be the same, correct?

2) I know I can just call PP and have them port number and activate/setup my phone to work. I do not believe they will root my Droid. If that is the case, should I root my Droid if I am going to switch to PP? What are advantages/disadvantages? Is it worth the hassle?

2) Can I still send and receive email from gmail and my work email (Office 365 Enterprise) using Droid X on PP?

3) How do I update my operating system on PP? Given how I use the phone (listed above), do I have to worry about doing upgrades?

1. I have heard good things about Straight Talk, not any from personal experience though.

2. Advantages of rooting: Complete Freedom, you will still be stuck on a CDMA carrier but you will be able to do whatever you want with your device: Disadvantages of rooting: There is a slim chance you get brick your device, just follow the guides and you will be fine.

3. Yes you can send/receive emails on PP

4. Since PP works off the Verizon Network it should get updates pushed from Verizon to PP, so yes you should still get them.

Most MNVO don't bother to send updates. It eats into their bulk data purchases from the carrier.
 
Thanks...was told that there probably will not be any more updates for my Droid X, and that rooting and doing upgrades can be a real pain.
