switching off apps?

So I click 'home' and go back to home. But if I go back to an app it's where I left it.
I ask Voyager how to get somewhere, then go back to home, and put my HTC Desire to sleep. In the middle of the night I hear a voice saying "Go 100 yards and turn left."

OK, so voyager has an exit option in the menu. But what about other apps? They must surely be using up memory and battery power..?

use an app killer? I use advanced task killer from the market...works great!

Nope, stop spending time looking at and worrying about that stuff.

App killer is really only needed in an emergency if an app gets hung up or something and you need to force close it. Otherwise, just let Android manage things. It does a good job of it.

Karel, if an app doesn't have a 'quit', then wherever possible you should 'back' out of an application if you want it to stop running. As you've found, just pressing the home button leaves an application running.
