Switching Phones; Contacts?

Later today I am going from a Moto Backflip to Samsung Captivate. This is my first android-to-android switch, and I was wondering if I need to do anything special to maintain my contacts through the switch? Does android automatically save to your sim card, or do I need to do that manually?

If your contacts are in gMail, all you need do is log-in on your new phone with your gmail account and after a few minutes, all of your contacts will be on your new phone, as will your calendar items.

seriously, if you haven't done it yet, I would definitely recommend to spend some time and input all your contacts into gmail. It'll make everything much easier in the long run. This includes calendar entries as well as contacts
