Switching to VRZN in a few months, pros & cons of Galaxy line vs. Nexus line?

Switching over from Sprint to Verizon in a few months, and I was wondering what advantages/disadvantages the Galaxy and Nexus lines of phones have in comparison to each other on Verizon's service, as in a few months i will be on the hunt for a new smartphone. Can some of you nice folks list off some of said advantages/disadvantages from experience?

If you're getting new contracts and subsidized phones wait till the 4th quarter phones are in.

Historically the nexus and galaxy both have good updates,I might be wrong but ATM only the galaxy nexus has jelly bean.

HTC and motorola are both expected to come out with newer phones and imho they have better radios ie signal catching sensitivity.

Since motorola is bought by google id like to think they may be updated more but I don't have facts to back this up. Please take LG off list not impressed by their and VZW lack of updates behavior.
Good luck.:)

Sammy Nexus has weak radios. Sammy S3 is better.

If you like the updates, the Nexus will get them first. There is no skin that needs tested. The S3 has a skin so updates take longer.

That said, if you are into modding, the Nexus is very easy to root and install a custom rom. If you do this, updates are not a factor cause the phone will be running a custom rom.

If I was not rooting or romming, I would probably get the S3 as weak radios are EXTREMELY frustrating!

I agree with waiting. There is a couple of nice Motorola phones with the droid RAZR HD and maxx version, the HTC droid incredible x, Samsung s
Galaxy note 2, and possible a brand new nexus all due out in the coming weeks or months.

It really depends on what you are looking for.

The Samsung radios in general are weak, the S3 has a little better radios from what i have heard, personally i have never really complained about the ones in my Nexus :)

----

The Nexus will receive OTA updates much faster than the S3, just because it is a Google phone.

----

The S3 has better performance since it is a newer phone and the most obvious being a better camera

----

Depending on what you like, the Nexus has no physical buttons on the front of the phone, while the S3 has the square at the bottom, or well weird shaped trapezoid or whatever

----

New LG Optimus Nexus is due to be released late this month so you could wait for that, it seems to me that it might be a let down though

----

S3 has removable Micro SD slot while the Nexus comes with 16GB or 32 GB internal memory

Hope this list helps, have any more questions feel free to ask!

I'm running jelly bean aokp Rom on the S3
The S3 also has ad card and marginally bigger screen
I think the S3 is a better value for money and equally future proof, when Android next version shows up. Big red is only going so far in updating the phones.

When you're ready to switch, talk to an online sales rep. Be undecided and ask them if they'll waive the device fee (specify precisely which device you want).

If they don't agree, say thanks but no thanks and try again with a different salesman. If they do agree (mine did on the first try for two S3s), either sign up there or copy the chat session and have it handy when you go to the store (I went to the store and the manager needed that to approve it--Evernote FTW--apparently, online sales have more freedom than in-store sales).

Bottom line: they can get a 2-year contract and a long-term customer or not; squabbling over a few hundred dollars is penny-wise but dollar dumb.
