Swype Alternatives?

are there any swype alternatives out there, that are free?

i have ran into alot of paid apps, but wondering if there are any free ones i can get my hands on, marketplace or browser download doesnt matter to me.

thanks for any help :D

SlideIT soft keyboard, it's a demo so you'll have to uninstall and reinstall when it runs out. The full version price is a bit high, I'm going to wait for Swype.

Tried Swype and loved it. Then tried SlideIt and Shapewriter. I found Shapewriter to be much better, but Swype was probably the best.

I got shapewriter. Its pretty good. Swype is still a lil better though. The keyboard for Shapewriter doesnt have all the symbols i need right away, and its vocabulary isnt as strong as Swype. Other than that its great.

I've been using SlideIT and have found it suits me better than any other. The dictionary works great and SlideIT seems to guess right my words in spite of my rather big fingers.

Tried a Swype beta, but not as good (for me).

Any one tried SwiftKey? I know it's not a gesture keyboard but I think it's way better. I never got along with Swype, could never see the keys properly if they were close together.

I'm part of the official Swype beta and have to say that I couldn't use my phone without Swype. That is the feature I show off most often to people who ask about my phone. (Probably not fair since it doesn't come standard with my phone and isn't readily available to the public). They are always amazed.

It's just what works best for you, SwiftKey predictive is amazing once you're used to it. It reads all your texts so it really does know what word you will most likely type next. Literally saved me hours of typing!

I've got Swiftkey, but I've gone back to Swype - the word prediction in Swiftkey drives me crazy.

Why are the makers of Swype holding out? They clearly have a solid product, but they won't make it available. It's flat out annoying and makes me not want to use their product. I've wanted Swype for many months, but they just won't sell it. I even signed up for the beta a long time ago, but haven't received anything.

I think I'll try SlideIT.

I signed up for the beta months ago and I haven't received anything either, and Ann, I can completely understand the predictive driving you mad, when I first installed it I hated the fact it would try and write all your message for you, but eventually got it and now wouldn't go back. The voice input that comes with it is quite good too, a lot better than I expected.

rhi, last night I was trying to type the program for Ryan's one-click lag fix in the AppBrain search engine and it constantly changed the OCLF to something strange and I almost tossed my poor Captivate against a brick wall - instead I calmly switched keyboards :D I'll try it again, but the frustration level when I'm trying to get something done just isn't worth it right now! There's so much to learn here, I have no time for obstinate predictive text!

That's my biggest gripe with Swype as well. They have a good product. I want their product. I want to give them my money. They don't want it. Why won't they just take my money?
