Sync app data between devices?

Hi All,

I've searched and seen a couple of posts on this subject but none from this year so I thought I'd try my luck and see if the answers have changed.

I own both a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (WiFi) and a Samsung Galaxy S3. They are not rooted and I am not wanting to do this until their warranties have expired.

What I want to know is:

Is it possible to sync app data between these two devices? Preferably picking just one or two files to sync.

Obviously I would need to be somewhere with WiFi for this to work with my GN but I'm having trouble finding an app that will let me do this

The main reason I want to do this is to sync my game save files between the two devices, but I'm sure that there are other ways such a feature could be helpful.

Thanks
Matt :)

It depends on the app. If it creates a specific save file on your sd card (real or virtual), then you can use a cloud storage service to save the file to from your S3 and then pull it down on your Note (or vice versa).

ES File explorer is a good app that you can also use to access most cloud storage (Drop Box, Drive, Skydrive, Box) and in some cases it works better than the cloud app (Google Drive for example is a less than ideal app).

Depends on the game. For example, Gameloft games are synced between devices via a Gameloft Cloud account. Game goes for some Gamevil games and the Inotia games.

I've just had a look at this app and it seems to only let you copy files to your cloud storage rather than ask for them to be continually synced?

Yeah a couple of mine do this, hopefully more will start building this kind of feature into the game

Helium backup would do this I believe. You may need to pay for the pro version for cloud sync though.

Thanks for the suggestion, have you (or anyone else) tried this? I'm a bit wary of paying for an app that might not do what I need it to

Thanks for all your replies :)

There's a free version of Helium you can have a play about with first, see if that does what you need it too. As far as I can see, the free version puts a backup on the SD Card for you to manually transfer between devices.

After having given helium a go the only problem I have with it is it will sync the whole app rather than letting me pick an individual file, for example GTA Vice City means syncing somewhere around 1gb worth of data every time I play so I'm not sure this will work...

I have found an app called 'FolderSync' this one requires you to pick certian folders that you would like to backup to the cloud, but it also has a filter function and one of these regards the size of the file. So i can ask the app to sync the GTA folder but ask it to exclude any files bigger than a few MB allowing just the save files (and possibly some other annoying small ones) Or i can set the filter to only sync files with a certain name. This would take some setting up but would hopefully allow me to do what I want

Not sure how you set your Helium up, but on mine (free version), I can choose what app to backup and I can set it to "app data only"

What do you mean by "app data only"?

Mine let me choose the individual apps but it would backup allll the data rather than just the parts I wanted to (Save Files) which resulted in big uploads with the larger games.
