Syncing Mac Snow Leopard and Android

Still

Lurker
I haven't found a quick answer to my problem that's why started this thread. I need to sync several things between Mac and Android, naturally I'm not very fond of paying for the software to perform this. I have found free edition of an app called SyncMate. Contacted the support, they explained how to sync calendar and contacts (that's what I need most). That's quite easy and the software's user-friendly, but I need to have a little bit more syncing features. Does any one know a free program worth trying?

try MobileMe, it should work fine with the contacts.
or even better to have sync for both contact and calendar is to sync your Mac (address book and iCal) with google, that is native support built in into the leopard.

That's what I do. Works great.

I would like to sync ical and address book to my droid for free as well and while I have snow leopard I haven't any interest in giving all the information in my calendar and address book to google's database.

Mobileme, SyncMate Expert, Salling Media Sync, and Missing Sync cost $$$.

Did I miss something in the previous posts that would work for me? Thanks for your help.

I'm a Mac user with an Android phone and while I'm happy using Google Calendar and Contacts instead of iCal, I'm not able to receive Entourage email, and that's a hassle. The way I can get email via phone at present is to auto-forward Entourage messages to Gmail, but this doesn't allow me to reply directly to sender, and all forwarded messages accumulate in my Entourage "sent" folder. I'm in a small business and cannot change to a Gmail address for my primary email, and Exchange Server is not an option either (too expensive). I was told when I bought the phone a few months ago that the developer community was all over the issue and an app to integrate Entourage with Android would be available shortly, but I'm unable to find any info on the web, and on forums I see posts about synching calendar and contacts. Doesn't anyone else need to synch Entourage email?

I am not sure there are going to be any "free" solutions that skip using google. I understand your hesitance in giving google your info, however keep in mind the android platform is designed around doing so from what I understand. For example when your first start using your phone it even wants you to have a gmail account. While it may be possible to circumvent any syncing with google, keep in mind their os may be sending information to its servers anyway in some form. I dont know if this will help much but good luck in any event

I dont use Entourage but would you be able to set up your mail from that account to pop into gmail? If you can you would be able to set gmail to take the emails off the server and delete the ones it takes. From there you could set gmail up on your desktop to reply to the mail using the address it was sent to (ie your Entourage account). The only real downside to this approach is that you may have a slight delay on your email being pop'ed depending on how often you get mail in this account.

for more info on doing this in gmail check out this link

you may not google does not provide "official tech support" for entourage but you could try it anyway and see if it works. good luck
