System update

Does anyone know how the new Samsung update Oreo effects Galaxy S7 phones? In the past its been my experience that operating system updates do are not always the most accommodating to older phones. The S9 has been out and i'm concerned the new update might not benefit my phone. I have had experiences where the battery time runs less and the overall performance of the phone is slower. I have been told these updates are more developed for the most recent phones and can adversely effect older models.

My wife's S7 Edge updated and it's fine. While it is true that major version upgrades can adversely affect phones, it's most likely because the system cache is never truly cleared during the process and remnants of the previous OS are creating problems. Best practice would be to backup your phone. Run the update and then Factory reset. This should clear out all the old stuff and leave you with a pristine installation.

As far as battery and phone performance, any major upgrade is going to require a lot of activity in the beginning, so you will have a period of reduced performance, but that should level out after a few days.

The problem with not upgrading is you will be missing security patches and the phone will continually nag you to upgrade.

Thanks for the reply. I can clear the cache but as far as a factory reset I am hesitant having had to do it a few times in the past and it always seems to be more a hassle then not because then i have to reset all my preferences etc. that is like getting a new phone or reformatting a computer.

A few weeks ago i got the Android 8 update. Before that update, on Android 7, i played PUBG Mobike which puts my phone to it's absolute limits. Now, with Android 8, it runs as good as before and everything else too. I don't know about battery, i don't pay much attention to it. And i love the new features of Android 8!
