SystemPanel question about CPU

On occasion, my MyTouch 4g will read 100% cpu on SystemPanel and stay there. It is not syncing and nothing obvious that I can think of that might be doing this. Is there a way to see what process is actually using the CPU? How can I diagnose which app is causing this?

System panel itself will use a lot of cpu when its open. Other than that, there are a lot of programs and syncing that goes on in the background that will use cpu. That's why many of us root and run Setcpu, as it lets you control the max cpu frequency so the phone doesnt use a lot of battery in the background.
