It is said they will start offering the Nexus 5 on the 14th, online and in stores on the 20th of November.

You can get it for $100 less directly from Google. If you can afford to pay for it all at once instead of monthly payments that's a much better deal.

Interesting that that the carriers are marking it up that much more.

At this time, I can't afford to buy the phone outright, so something like this would be beneficial to me.

Bottom line: Google subsidized the price. Just like govt subsidized the healthcare cost for the poor. (Me don't like that!)

It's not necessarily that Google subsidizes it, it could be that LG sells it cheaper to Google because of the agreement in place to make the device.
