T-mobile sim is "garbage"?

Merc1032

Newbie
Ordered my moto x from moto maker....ordered it with tmobile sim.

Called to activate (porting out of tmobile) and was told that they cant activate the sim thats shipped with the phone.

was told that that ATT can activate a sim thats shipped with a phone..but tmobile cant, and they now activate them BEFORE shipping. Then they told me that I activate it and port my number AFTER I get it...

If its activated already...how do I activate it after?

I more annoyed then anything because I got this awesome new phone in my possession which i ordered as a tmobile unit..and Im told I cant activate it till tuesday when my new sim should be here. They are sending it to me for free, but I dont understand it...is Motorolla buying/getting thousands of worthless sims or was this guy full of shit?

Anyone activate a moto x on tmobile recently?

Anyone activate a moto x on tmobile recently?

Well not recently but when I got my XT1053 in December I just took it in to a T-Mobile store where they popped out the original SIM, programed a new one, inserted it and said: "Here you go, Enjoy." Same phone number and contacts, all is good.

I had that option too, but the guy was telling me they may not waive my activation fee and I would have to pay 10 bucks for the sim card...

Not to be cheap sounding but thats more then another month of service on boost..and possibly tmobile after my discount from work..

Just makes little sense to me..why include a sim that cant be used? I wonder if it could of been activated for prepaid? Seems silly..

!UPDATE!

Talked to A Tforce rep on the phone and she was able to clear things up a bit for me. She actually seemed very knowledgeable...to bad I didnt get to talk to her off the bat.

For one, the SIM that ships with the moto x is a good sim, only if your looking to do a PREPAID account. If your trying to setup a postpaid/conventional plan then your going to have to get a new sim..or so im told.

Secondly, the sales guy who set me up ****** me out of my Tmobile Advantage discount (Work discount from USPS). He told me that once the sim arrived I could then add the discount to my plan..which sounded ok to me since I havnt started service or paid anything yet. Wrong. Doing it his way will take 2-3 billing cycles to have it go on my account. The lady on the phone told me that can, and should be added right as the order is placed and then the discount would be there from the get-go.

She could not however add the discount, cancel the old order for a new one, or offer any help with that issue.

Again, this could be more BS but this rep seemed a lot more knowledgeable about the product/service.

Hope this helps someone else in the future...now Im waiting for the ups guy..again.

This make no sense? If you buy the moto x on moto maker and choose T-Mobile as your provider, the sim works on post paid accounts. At least this was the case August 5, 2014. As I had an existing post paid account, I simply had T-Mobile switch it to the nano sim that came with my moto x. I did this over the phone. Prior to this I called both Motorola and T-Mobile and they told me it would work etc. And it was the case in the end. My work discount still intact as well.

All your doing is switching your existing sim to another. So nothing else should change from your current T-Mobile service, billing, etc.

T-Mobile does not have activation fees? Only charge for a sim card if you don't have one.http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-3235

Got a moto x in may activated it on a postpaid account I am surpised they didn't ask for the sim card number, I manually swapped the sim as I was switching micro sim to the nano that came with it.

Idk..maybe it had to do with me being a new account..

Personally I think its because I got a complete idiot guy on the line when I called. Should have done the ol hang up and call back routine. After all, this guy also tried to tell me that the music freedom only works if you pay for 3gigs of data. He was not to bright.

Either way, Im set now. Got my number port, my monthly work discount, and im loving the Moto X!
