T-Mobile UK 500MB limit for media D/L on unlimited web?

Hi,

So i'm not presently a TMobile customer but am aware of the big scandal when they tried to reduce their limit, and then backdown. So now that the dust has settled as a new joiner, I would get so-called unlimited data but with a clause that says there is a 500MB monthly limit on media streaming and downloads, while web browsing and email are unlimited.

Are they actually using deep packet inspection? Or monitoring the bandwidth that you are using (which is presumably infrequent and very lowish for the unlimited email and web surfing)?

How is this actually working (or not) for people out there in the real world? .... would appreciate knowing before I sign my life away for another 18 months.....

Not sure but I wouldn't mind knowing myself, my contract ends on Monday. I'm currently on their 3gb internet but I still find they cap my speeds during peak times, it started happening just after they backed down over the change in contact drama.

UK mobile networks are a joke though, they all try and tell you that 500mb is enough when really it's down to the specific user.

They actually cap (I take it you mean throttle) your speeds at peak times? What does that mean really in practice? On O2 or 3, I don't think I've managed to ever sustain download speeds in any meaningful way - tends to be fine or very frustrating.

Yea sorry I meant throttle (was late last night) Normally I get about 2mbps download but at peak times It can be allot lower, it's forced me to use wifi when at home now as it's just to slow for me. .

I'm thinking about going with Giff Gaff who offer truly unlimited Internet, the only problem with them is they're payg so don't offer any decent contracts, I want the Nexus Prime when it comes out so I'm going to have to make a decision as to which carrier is least crap.

I've never noticed or had a problem with T-mobile and I've been with them 7 yrs.
