Tablet screen goes dark second after Home screen display

Tom Bennett

Lurker
When I power on my tablet (or my neighbor's Samsung smartphone) the power-up sequence goes fine all the way to the home screen display.

But within seconds of displaying the home screen -- on both devices -- the screen goes dark requiring me to press the power button a second time to view the Home screen again.

I'm usually very good with Google searches -- but i got 'skunked' on this one. :)

P.S.
Perhaps I should add the following:
A. On my tablet this only occurs when I power on. I can continue use without this happening again unless I exceed the 30 minute limit I set in SETTINGS.
B. However, on the smartphone this seems to repeat whenever there is no user activity for about 5-10 seconds. This despite the 30 minute limit I set in SETTINGS.

TY very much for that suggestion. While I still don't have a complete answer, your tip raised some interesting possibilities.

Power Saving Mode is not listed in Settings (next to BATTERY) for my Le Pan tablet running Android 4.2.2.

In my research on this feature I discovered someone using an HP 7 tablet said the same thing.

I suspect the same might be true of my neighbor's Samsung smartphone. I haven't had a chance to check with him yet.

I suppose it could also be the case that the enable/disable option for Power Saving Mode is at a different location depending on the make and model of your mobile device. Although I did not find it under SETTINGS > BATTERY. I also looked in the Notification bar at the top of the screen to no avail.

So this all seems to beg the question, "Are their 'some' Android tablets and phones that are hardwired for a modified version of Power Saving Mode (e.g., only turning the screen off) -- and it cannot be disabled?"

Anyone have any thoughts on this?
