take pic while composing gmail

it seems I can't take a pic (kind of in real time) when sending a email, I have to have a pic available to attach, which means I would have to save the email as a draft, go take a pic, then go back to the draft and attach it?
not a super big deal but clunky and inconvenient for technology leader google, am I missing something about send a pic with gmail, and just to be sure this is on the phone, not a desktop or a laptop
I also use yahoo mail and that allows to take a pic to attach while composing the email

You don't have to explicitly save the email as a draft: you can just switch to the camera, take a picture, then switch back to the email app. Sure you may get a message saying it's "saving a draft" when you switch, but when you return to GMail you'll still be in the compost screen (unless your phone has so little RAM it can't even keep GMail alive while running the camera, of course).

Admittedly other email clients do have this option: I just checked and with Nine, which I use, if I touch the "attach file" icon one of the options is "take a picture". So you can surely find some other client that does this if it is important to you - you do not have to use the GMail app at all (I disable it and use other email clients even for GMail accounts). To be honest it's never occurred to me to take a picture while composing an email, so until this minute I didn't know the feature existed.

Totally depending on how the app was made. Some apps allow you to take photos as attachment, others only search for photos stored on the devices.

If Google doesn't do that way, they must have a plausible reason.
