Tap to pay apps

I have a Note Edge running Marshmallow. Are there any "tap to pay" apps other than Android Pay? I would like a tap to pay app that does not require a phone lock. Can't have a phone screen lock on my phone due to the way I use my phone when driving. I did a google search but couldn't find anything other than Android pay and Apple pay. Google Wallet appears to be for transferring money between accounts. Any suggestions? Thank you.

I think any "tap to pay" methods all require devices to be locked. Basically to prevent anyone else getting hold of your device and fraudulently tapping and buying things with it. For a Samsung, think the only options you've really got are Android Pay or Samsung Pay, if the Note Edge is compatible. Apple Pay requires an iPhone of course, but again it must be locked.

Ten Pay or Ali Pay don't, they're not "tap to pay". You scan a QR and enter your PIN at the time of purchasing things, but those are only available in China AFAiK.

You can keep your phone unlocked using a trusted device, do you have BT in your car? It would stay unlocked there but lock when out of range.

I use my smartwatch so my phone is mostly always unlocked but it will lock if I get too far away from it. Almost any BT device will work; FitBit, watch or even just a little key fob thingy.

Back in the olden days of Wallet (when they were combined) you could have a separate PIN for just that, I really liked that and wish they'd bring that back for Android Pay. When they split it out they left the separate PIN on Wallet but required the whole phone lock for AP. Locking phones is obviously the smart thing to do but being able to lock just AP would be great.

I'm not at all good with Tasker, but there may be a way to set it up to kick in when AP is running. Launch AP, require PIN, close AP, exit. Oh. I don't know. Probably would have to be rooted though.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Note Edge is to old of a phone for Samsung Pay. I wouldn't mind using a PIN to unlock just the Android Pay app but it wants to lock up the whole phone which I can't have. I do to much driving and get to many emails and text messages to have to keep unlocking the phone as I drive. It would not be safe to have to look down at my phone to unlock it every 2 minutes or whatever the lockout time is.

Well. Not to sound like your mother or anything but you shouldn't be doing anything but driving when you are driving. :p

Your best bet is a trusted device then, or no tap to pay. No real way around the full phone lock that I know of.

Rest assured I don't reply to the texts or emails but I have to be able to tap the screen and have them open so I can read the address for the GPS.

I looked up Tasker and read about it but I don't understand what it does;

"Tasker is an application for Android which performs tasks (sets of actions) based on contexts (application, time, date, location, event, gesture) in user-defined profiles or in clickable or timer home screen widgets.
This simple concept profoundly extends your control of your Android device and it's capabilities, without the need for 'root' or a special home screen."

Tasker is used to automate settings/actions on your phone. It's a powerful program and there is a learning curve but it's pretty amazing. As I said, I use it for basic things like turning my display off if the phone is face down or turning my notification tones on/off and adjusting my ringtone at night, it's capable of so much more though. Years ago I used it to lock my phone if it wasn't connected to my wifi or car BT and to unlock when it was, before trusted device was added. Since I don't need that anymore I haven't used it for that and am not sure you even can anymore. Google has gotten a little tight with locking/unlocking and permissions. I did look around a bit and it appears as if you can't do that, at least for tap to pay.

I am a heavy Tasker user.

There are two Tasker factors being discussed here ... what triggers the activity ... the activity.

Where I live you can get a traffic ticket if you use a phone while the engine is running.

I have a Tasker profile that is triggered by receipt of an incoming SMS message. When it arrive the task in this profile announces the subject, who it is from, and then the message in its entirety.

If it is important I park the car (engine off) and respond.

I normally specify None on screen lock. I just set a pattern lock and ran a test for you. The incoming SMS message is read to me when the screen is locked.

Some of the capabilities in Tasker are device and system-level dependent. My test was on an un-root-ed Droid Turbo 2 running Android 6.0.
