first.

WARNING: Don't attempt to do this without first reading up on it very carefully. Although the process is pretty painless, there is more than a slight chance that you could brick your phone, ESPECIALLY at 1 very critical point in the steps.
My advice, should you decide that you are daring enough, is to read and read and read for the next 2 days, asking questions left and right. The forum members here are here to help - and they (we) do that very well.
TBH, it really isn't that bad of a process, now that things have gotten more streamlined, but if you
don't know what you're doing then you can
easily get lost and fsck up a step (or three).
Just as an example of how doing your research helps: I have never owned a smartphone before, the DROID is my first. I did a lot of reading and asking questions and hounding people, but when I took the plunge, I had minor issues, and all of them were user error stuff. My phone is the same original one I bought way back when.
