i use advance task killer..and set it to kill apps on screen off, just to kill apps that are running so that they don't consume too much battery. rest android should handle i suppose

There us no taskmanager in CM, that app in not compatible with CM's framework, however there is a ported version available at xda, search for it there.

just downloaded a third party one. Its hard to believe that the CM people wouldnt have addressed this directly. Thanks guys.

You don't need task killers with android, they will drain your battery faster.

i agree. i dont want to kill tasks automatically all day. i just want to be able to do things like exit out of the web browser, etc

Settings/Applications/Running services, that should sort you if you really need but i'd just let the phone sort itself out, Google removed the exit button from the browser for a reason.
