Tell me the joys of rooting

Glutz

Newbie
I heard the risks of rooting and I'm thinking of rooting my android phone. But first I want to see if it's worth the risks so I want to hear everybody point if view before I decide. So we shall discuss the joys of rooting.:D

MY CHOICE I hadn't made one yet keep posting!

1. Could see the risks of rooting, I see the risks of what may happen if you do something after rooting.

2. Depending on your phone, rooting is easy. Some models support SuperOneClick. This is basically, plug your phone to PC to run SuperOneClick program, click root. After 20 secs, you're rooted.

3. The greatest benefit of root for me? Full backup. Even if my phone gets wiped after upgrade, I still get to restore all my game saves, app data, etc.

I also read that if you root then you can have the cell phone function as a hot spot without the cell company provider knowing it.

Depends on provider I think. I'm in the Philippines, on Globe Telecoms. I tether my phone, my carrier knows about it. Been doing it for over a year. I even inquired about it when I first got my internet plan. What I got from my conversation with them? they dont care even if I manage to download 1 terabyte for every day of the month. I still get billed for ONLY P1200 for the unlimited data (about $30). That's why they call it unlimited.

I am sure you are correct about the provider. I am in the US and use Verizon and Verizon will charge you extra for the hot spot. I currently have a BB and do not use an Android but I have been doing some reading and the rooting supposedly gets around Verizon issues.

Are there any Verizon users here that can comment on this?

I wouldn't count on your provider not knowing, and they would be within the terms of the agreement to automatically add a tethering plan to your bill if they determine you are tethering. However, I think they just use that as a scare tactic to make sure people don't abuse it.

Depends on the carrier. ATT adds the tether plan automatically.

A simple way around detection.. use a VPN.
