Help Terminology question

Looking into taking a phone for someone whose phone for stolen. What are CID and LAC and how do I find them for a phone? Do I need three physical phone, or can it be obtained from customer service?

For the world we know, CID is carrier id. Mine is SPCS_001 and so is everyone else on Sprint.

LAC is local area code - and we just use area codes.

Is it an Android?

Use the device locator if it is.

Location Area Code and Cell ID (europe as well as india!) identify which GSM cell tower a GSM phone is connected to. (each tower has its own Cell ID (or CID) and exists within its area identified by LAC) Your service provider will know this at any time but is unlikely to tell you without a court order or instruction from the police. You normally need the phone in your hands to get this info. As EM says, your best hope is to use the device locator

What you call a CID is an SID here - station id.

CID is an overloaded term for you. If you're rooted, you'll find your carrier id in your build.prop, and may use the SuperCID mod to ease firmware updates.

So it sounds like there is little he can do without first getting those codes? Verizon won't work with him. They wouldn't even give him a new phone without his mom present since she is the name on the account. She lives in the other side of the state.. So yeah, they are SO helpful..

He said that they did a factory reset almost immediately after stealing it. Not sure how he knows, but if they did, will that affect it?

If he's already tried it and it doesn't work, he's SOL.

If he knows who did it through the grapevine and heard that, and is playing cop, he's SOL.
