Help Tethering a Galaxy 10.1

dblhelx

Newbie
My wife wants to get me a tablet for my birthday. She wants an iPad 2, which I wouldn't mind because let's face it, it's a good product except for a few shortcomings such as no Flash.

My personal choice would be the Galaxy Tab 10.1. I know it doesn't have an onboard USB but you can buy a cheap USB adapter. All I care about is watching videos, surfing the net, some games/apps. I'm not a hardcore gamer, just the usual apps, etc.

With this, I assume I can tether it via the usual USB cable from my Evo and my PDA.NET app?

Thanks!

I'm not very familiar with your device, so I'm not really able to give you sound advice.

I've moved your thread to the galaxy tab 10.1 forum so the folks over there can better assist you. They have a more intimate knowledge of your tablet and I'm sure can assist you better. :)

Now teathering with your evo should work no problem as long as either: You are paying for the teathering option on a stock evo.
Or you are rooted and are able to have access to root only apps.
PdaNet "should" work for the application you are trying, It's the tablet I'm unfamiliar with.

If you have any questions about setting up tethering for the evo, by all means post up a question on teathering in the evo section. Also if you have any questions please post them up or feel free to send me a PM, I'm always glad to help out! :D

Thanks!! :)

Youeill not be able to do that. You can use WiFi or Bluetooth tethering, though.

I have a Droid X, rooted and set up as a free hot spot. I can set up the wi-fi tethering and browse the web with the GT anywhere I travel.

I have the exact same set up and haven't tried it yet. My Evo is not rooted but I'm not opposed to it. I had PDAnet at one time but was using EasyTether with my laptop. I haven't tried it yet with the Tab. I'm still waiting on the cheap USB adapter.

I'll give the BT option a whirl and see if it works.

Same problem with Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab 10.1. They pair but won't connect. Where would I go to learn how to set up a hot spot?

I have a rooted HTC Inspire 4G. With that I simply enable Wireless Hotspot on my phone. The Galaxy 10.1 detects the new wifi network right away and connects no problem. I just be careful not to download too much. I hear if you take it easy, ATT wont auto-upgrade your plan to a tethering plan.

For some reason I can't get the two to connect. They pair, but nothing beyond that.

Just using the native Bluetooth on the Tab and phone, you won't see them connect... all you will be able to do is transfer files from one device to the other, and they only "connect" while transfer.

I was using Open Garden on my T-bolt to tether via wifi. Never could get USB tethering to work right.
