Tethering Apps that Hide Usage

So many of you are familiar with how iPhone users (particularly on AT&T) were hit with warning messages that stated they were detected with unauthorized tethering. Soon after, PDANet responded with a new feature that claims it hides data usage.

My question is:

Aside from PDANet (since it requires other software), is there any other tether apps for the android that hide tether usage from the carrier?

Alternately, what is your favorite android tether app?

As far as I know there is no way of telling whether your data is from checking gmail on the phone or web browsing from the computer. Not sure how Att customers got caught on the iphone, but as far as I know, at least on CDMA, data is data

That being said, no one is gonna question a few gigs a month from a smart phone, however if you start using it as your only internet and rack up 15-20 gigs of data, dont be surprised if you get a message from your carrier telling you your contract has been terminated. I know theres plenty of people on here that will chime in and say it doesnt happen...trust me, it does. I generally only use tethering at the airport or something briefly.

And to answer your question, I use "Wireless Tether" for tethering. Most carriers have blocked it from the market so if you want it or just about any other tethering app, youre gonna have to load it from their website

Thanks for the insight chawski. Regarding knowing where the data originates, from what I read it seems tethered data on the AT&T network takes a different path. I read a claim that tethered data was piped through a different APN on AT&T's end than regular 3G usage.

I haven't confirmed that. In fact, when I get "wireless tether" or some other app, I may try and capture some of my outgoing data tethered vs non-tethered using a packet sniffer on the phone (e.g. Wireshark) and see if they look any different.
