Help Tethering Galaxy S (CSpire) with no MobileAp?

Hey guys, I just replaced my HTC Hero (broken ringer speaker) with a Galaxy S and have been researching all day about tethering. I was able to USB tether my Hero to my XP laptop (HP) no problem using EasyTether but I'm having a bit more trouble with the Galaxy S.

First, I have unlimited data usage with CSpire but my Galaxy S has no MobileAp option under 'Wireless Networks', so I'm guessing that CSpire has locked it out and without rooting, I can't use the Galaxy S to give my laptop wireless internet (when travelling, etc).

I downloaded SVTP and EasyTether Lite from Google Play Store (buggy, don't like it and it's version 3.4.7) but before attempting, I wanted to see if anyone has used either successfully.

I'd much prefer a wireless connection between my phone and laptop but I'll take whatever I can get even if it means using the USB charging/data cable.

Thanks guys!

Jeremy

BTW, I also thought I should mention that my brother who has a MilestoneX2 (CSpire version of Droid X2) has no problems with using his phone as a wireless hotspot. We both have the same carrier...

USB tethering was implemented in Froyo 2.2 and can be found in Settings > Wireless and networks > Tethering. The phone needs to be connected to the PC first (via USB) to be able to tick the USB Tethering box.

If your Firmware version is still 2.1 Eclair, you will need to update the phone to get Tethering.

I'm running 2.3.5 but just connected the Galaxy S to the laptop via the USB charging cable and still no tethering option for some reason. Even checked the advanced options,etc...

Update: I went ahead and downloaded the Mobile AP shortcut widget and after installing/opening a message popped up saying "Sorry this implementation will not work for your phone!"

This stinks!!

I think I'm done with the phone for awhile until i decide whether or not I'm going to root it....the thing is, I really could care less about rooting the phone as I have custom built overclocked, etc laptops and desktops already and don't need the phone for anything special.

I just want to use the Galaxy for wireless internet for my laptop when I'm out of town.

EDIT: Ok, I was able to USB tether the phone with EasyTether like I used on my Hero but since my phone does not have the Tethering menu or MobileAP app installed, is there any other wireless tethering app (free preferred) that works?

Finally found out that Cspire did disable the wireless tethering option for the Galaxy S, ironic considering that Cspire is one of the few that all unlimited data usage with no charges. Guess i'll be rooting the phone sometime once I get tired of USB tethering...
