Tethering revisited

Ok...so I have done just about everything I need on my phone except tethering. Since I only had Edge available, I had never bothered to look into tethering, but now that 3g is on the horizon for me (June rollout), I am looking to tether.

Now, I recall reading that tethering apps in the market are now blocked. If that is true, where would I go to find the tethering apps, which is the best out there, and how would I go about loading it onto my phone.

I did give PDA net a shot, but the auto installer will not load it onto my phone...

You guys have come through for me many times...I hope to be dazzled again!!!

I installed it with no problems. A few things that may be wrong and you need to fix:

1. On your phone in settings/applications/ menu make sure unknown sources is checked, then further under development - usb debugging is enabled.

2. If you have all that set and previously plugged in your phone to USB, you may have gotten an error that Windows (I assume that's your OS) can't find the driver for the device, and if you checked a box to never try installing it again - it may not be even trying after PdaNet installed the driver... So if you get no "new hardware" wizard when you plug in (only plug it in when installer tells you to), then while phone is connected, go to device manager and delete it, then unplug USB and plug it in again. That should pop-up the new hardware dialog....

Hopefully that will get you through...
LEM.

P.S. Just a thought - you sure app is not installed, did you check? There was no notification whatsoever on my phone, it just appeared in applications named "PdaNet". You need to run it, and tell it to turn PdaNet on before you can connect from a PC.

Thanks...done it all. Even deleted and reloaded driver, updated, tried to roll back, all through device manager. Nothing.

This is so frustrating. Could it be the computer itself?

I am wondering: Is possible to connect my android phone to my audio car system through USB( my audio car has a usb port) and take adavantage of the 3g in order to listen streamin music directly into my audio car!
I do no want any usb Y cable or usb jack cable just using the usb connection without mounting the sd card on usb but connect streaming music to usb and that streaming music would be read by the audio system as it beleives it is a mp3 file.
Is that possible? Please make my dreams come true...

dude tethering my g1 was so ridiculously easy, it literally took me 15 seconds to google, then about 90 seconds to set up.

i thought it would be a lot harder than that. nice feature though, plus its surprisingly fast

i have a rooted g1 btw
