Tethering Samsung Epic

la sal

Android Expert
Those that tether with their USB, has an issue ever arised with Sprint? My wife is interested in connecting to her HP Netbook with her Samsung Epic.

as long as you keep it under control, it shouldn't be a problem. i.e. for light, on-the-go use. I wouldn't recommend using it as your primary internet connection unless you pay for the hotspot add-on.

for most normal use.. it will not be much issue...
i do 3-6GB a month... and dont see any issues.

if you are downloading 4 movies a day... then you might be abusing it. 10GB/month or more might raise a flag at sprint.

I had found an article on how to tether the Samsung Epic but I can't seem to find it now. Anyone have a link?

An app called PDANet works well if you are trying to tether via USB, and this does not require rooting the phone, which is nice. PDANet is in the market. The free version allows you to surf, but you cannot view secure web pages (i.e. bank account, email, etc). The paid version is a one time fee for the app and you can view any type of web page you like.

For wireless tether you will need to root the phone, or pay the hot spot add on fee.

Ps. AndroidTethering, and EasyTether are two other options. Haven't used, but heard they work. Easy Tether also requires a fee if you want full internet access. Not sure about fee with AndroidTethering, may be free for full access.
