I am on a data plan that allows tethering and I have just tried to set this up for use with my tablet and it does work however I can't seem to simply turn the 'portable Wifi' feature off! There is a tick-box to enable it but when I click on it again to turn it off it looks like it is trying to establish another connection and I get an error. I have to restart my phone to get it to turn the tethering off.
It is an old phone and it has taken a rather unfortunate bath and come out of that experience a little more senile that it was before, but I was wondering if anyone had experienced this or knows something I'm missing.
UPDATE: never mind, it seems to have fixed itself.
