Many things can access many other things on this phone I've noticed. If you have read about the programme, and are happy with it, then don't worry. As stated elsewhere by much wiser people than me, Android being Linux based is quite safe from viruses unless you put them there yourself.
I use Chomp SMS myself - I'm sight impaired, and have found it really good because I can scale the font as big as I like and change all the colours to suit, and it has lovely bubbles!
The other thing I've done is to use OpenHome, but you could try DxTop or aHome, as they allow you to change the font size for a number of things - though if you go too big it cuts the text in half which I've not worked out how to resolve (any suggestions welcome!!!). It hasn't done so on some apps, though if you find the right ones (like ChompSMS) you'll find they'll allow you to anyway.
I'm just trying to find a decent email client now that allows me to change the font size, and I'll be almost happy!
