Text Location

My daughter has an iPHONE.(booo) I asked her tell me how far away she was so I could go to the location and pick her up. She shared her location in a text to me from her iPHONE. I received the text with a link. I click on it and I'm sent to the phone book contacts APP... How do I get this link to bring up google maps APP?

Really depends what kind of link it was. If she sent it from the Google maps app, by selecting the share my location option then the link would look like this https://maps.app.goo.gl/hdhdusjwjhs pressing such a link would bring you to Google maps app or website. But if the link was sent using some iPhone app then it makes sense it wouldn't open.
Try copying the link to your browser and see if it works there.

For the future, i would suggest you use WhatsApp for sharing location. As long as you both have it, go into a chat with the person you want to share with press the attach button and select 'location' and send

Hope you find your daughter soon, it's been like 10 hours by now :D

We're all just making guesses here at this point so for practical suggestions to prevent this from being an ongoing problem it would help if you posted an actual example. For your own (and your daughter's) safety don't post anything valid but have her do the same thing she did before but from some neutral, public location. (i.e. if it works on your phone this time than that previous problem was probably just a mistake, if it still is launches into your Contacts app than without an example we're again, just making suppositions.)

In the iPHONE iMessage app there is a “Send My Current Location” option. This sends me an odd ball link. When I first received it from her it asked me a question about what app to open it with and I selected the wrong one. Do you know how I change the default APP inside of android messenger?? Maybe this is a better way to ask this question...

Check in your Settings >> Apps menu and look for your messenger app. Tap it and there's a 'Open by default' option that should indicate if it is or isn't relative to your issue. There's a 'Clear defaults' button that will remove that app from being the default selection.

Tell her to send you only the street address, City and state.
Then highlight them all and paste into Google maps

I was wondrringbhoe someone can find a way to send a location via text but can't look up and say we are at 'the mall' or 5701 juniper st. Etc

In Maps you'll need to sign in to location sharing in the menus, select your privacy options so your not broadcasting your location to everyone and you good to go. I have no idea of the vagaries of iOS!

You can then send your location by text.

Alternatively, drop a pin at your location, pull the card up from the bottom screen edge, tap 'share', copy to clipboard and paste into your text message. This gives a link which will open Google Maps at the appropriate location (avoids any privacy concerns). The text includes lat/long coordinates which can be copied/pasted into most navigation apps, including full off-line apps such as Magic Earth.
