Help Text messages coming in with additional 1 before area code

This morning I began receiving texts with an additional 1 before the area code. For example: +118322221111. Didn't think anything of it until I went to reply and got a message saying that I need to send to a valid 10 digit number. Not exactly sure what is happening here.

I went into the store contact info for that number and I in fact had a +1 before the area code. To see if it helped I took out the +1 and was able to text that person. But their replies were coming in an additional window with the extra 1...............does anyone know what the hell has happened and how I can fix it???

Every text message I have gotten this morning is with the additional 1 and I have to open a new window to view their message! I can not express how annoyed I am!!!

Same here! It seems to only be happening with one friend, also on a Galaxy S5 but she has Verizon. Her message came to me with the extra one and I had to respond in her old text chain. I deleted the message with the extra one but now her original text chain had the extra 1.
