why is it that sometimes my text messages won't send

Hi, welcome to Android Forums.
The only time my text messages fail to send is if I have no mobile signal, so next time yours fails to send just check your mobile signal. When I'm at home my signal varies from poor to zero and any text messages I create will 'go' as soon as the mobile signal is strong enough.
If you're in a similar situation there is nothing amiss and it's just a matter of being patient, or as I sometimes do, head to where your signal is strong.
Text messages can also be delayed if your network is congested.
