Text Messaging Apps

Hello all, so I just got my first droid and am loving it. But I have a question regarding texting apps. I did a search and eventually decided to use Handcents seemed to be the most popular one. My question though is if I am using Handcents as my messaging service will I still get charged for text messaging through Verizon or would I be able to cancel my unlimited texting plan and just use Handcents?

Thanks,

Villam

Handcent is simply a different app\way for you to send regular texts.
No matter what you use to text, you are still using Verizon and your plan, just using a different application.

Handcent does not replace texting, nor is it a real "text messaging app", it is just a 3rd party (just like with the stock texting application) way to send texts

Correct. OP: you still pay your carrier to deliver the message to you (out for you). Handcent simply changes how you interact with the device.
