Help text messaging shows "silenced"

I have checked alot of places but can't find how to get notification sounds for incoming text messages?

Is there more than one place to check?
 
Try pulling down the statusbar, tapping on the Settings cog, scrolling down to Notifications, then find and tap on your text messaging app (I use Messenger) and turning any sound looking stuff on and Do not disturb off.

I navigated there and my only options for messaging is something called “Silent” and “on the lock screen, hide sensitive only”

Silent is set to the left assuming that means off.

I’m stumped
 
There is nothing like that, only two things I mentioned.

What do use when someone texts your phone? Everyone u text with uses the same app?

Yes. My work and friends use Facebook messenger. I was reluctant to create a Facebook profile but their Messenger app works really well. I hardly ever post anything to my actual Facebook page. Before that I used e-mails.

I’m north of the border-Telus.

I just played around with settings. I don’t see “silenced” anymore BUT I didn’t hear the incoming text message notification:(
 
What are you using for texting? I use the stock app that came on the phone, the yellow icon one. I am on Verizon so don't know if that matters. I open the app and click the 3 dots in the upper right and click settings. Then click notification and turn on new messages and you will see on that screen to change the notification sound too. If new messages is turned off you won't hear any text alert. Any LG phone I had has been this way with the stock app. Mary
 
Thanks for your reply. I also use the stock app. Although I’m not sure it’s an app? It’s the messaging that is with the cell dialing screen.

New messages turned on
Show as pop ups turned on
Preview new messages turned on
SIM card 1 notification sound woodpecker my choice
Vibrate while in vibrate only mode
Repeat never

That’s what shows in my settings.

I have never messaged from the dialing screen, how do you do that? I am talking about this icon. That is what I use and in there is where I turn the text notification sound on and off.

So when you go to that icon in settings, notifications and turn that on and have a sound selected it's still silent? I assume under the phone settings for sound, volume, in there the notification settings is turned on. Just input your number in the to field and send yourself a text. It may come too fast though for the sound to work but try it. Did it ever work right? Mary
 
Yay!! I have it working! When I checked the notification from the pull down section ...I pressed down and there was two options...looks like I had it silenced. Thus on that screen I selected do not silence.

Weird I couldn’t and can’t find that setting though within my settings.

But at least it’s working now.

The only way I can turn it on and off on my G6 is through the texting icon. I am on Verizon so who knows. Glad it's working. Mary
 
Oh I see now. When you go to application manager, messaging, notifications you can silence it there regardless of how you have it set in the app settings. Never realized that. Mary
