Help Text with red X wont delete

I have a envelope showing on my log showing a text with a red X on it, it says tap to see mesg when i do it disappears but shows back up in the tool bar again showing the mesg...I have been trying for three days now to delete this and it will not go away.....Can someone please help me with this issue and let me know how to keep it from coming back.

Have you tried going into the stock SMS app in application manager and clearing cache? If you do that, be sure to reboot.

There are apps in Market which address text manipulation and management. There's one called, "delete old messaged" which might be of help to you, but search in Market for a while and you will likely come up with something even better.

Chomp and Handcent are popular SMS apps, with more configuration selections than the stock SMS app.
