I'm trying to take my text messages from my old phone Samsung Galaxy 3 to my new pixel 2 and I'm only to get some but not all anyone know how to get all of them

Back them up with your favourite SMS backup app. Copy the backup to the new phone. Install same backup app on new phone. Use it to restore backup.
That's if the provided tools aren't working, which sounds to be the case.

Try installing this 'Backup & Restore' app on both phones:

On your S3 run the app and do a full, complete backup of your text messages (and phone calls if you want). Save it to an online service, and/or save the backup file itself as an email attachment.
Then using the app on your Pixel use the Restore function pointed to that backup file to import your messages (and phone logs).
