Texting.

Lurker
Since I traded my LG G7 ThinQ with Android 7 to the new OnePlus 7 Pro with Android Pie my text messages are not being read out loud automatically any longer. I have the Pro Version of Shouter and need this feature because I'm visually impaired. While walking with my guide dog it's not possible to pull my phone out of my pocket constantly to check if the message came from someone I need to respond to right away.

Have you given Shouter permission to ready your notifications? It may also need to be enabled in the Accessibility section of settings.

Yes it has all permissions on accessable as well as inside the app. I've been using this app for a free years and Pie seems to be the only one with issues.

Looks like it may be a change in Google's policy regarding access to SMS messages. :(

WHAT'S NEW
Due to recent changes in google's policy shouter is unable to access your sms or call information directly. Now Shouter uses data from Notification for detecting and announcing call and sms. So this permission has become important for call, sms, battery and Notification announcement

I'm looking for any apps that still work. I think you will need to use an SMS app that supports reading them out loud to you as opposed to an app that reads the SMS message in a standard messaging app.

That's what I've been thinking to. I've tried several and none have worked so far. When I find one I will purchase the paid version of available to support the developers. Thanks for your help.

Do me a favor if you find one and post a play link here. It will help other visually impaired folks in the future. :)

Good luck, I'm still hunting for one, but they all seem to work in conjunction with a standard SMS app like Shouter. I guess it makes sense as they are designed to handle multiple forms of communication, but it is a little frustrating that they left folks like you in a lurch.
