This is an excellent replacement app for messaging. I like the stock SMS app that comes with my phone but Textra has a really nice UI and gives some nice options to change the colour of the text bubbles.

It performs well (very, very smooth) and you don't have to do anything upon installation, the app sets up everything for you! The devs are also very responsive and helpful. I highly recommend this app.

Hm, I've only ever used Handcent. Maybe I'll give this one a shot for a bit and try it out.
