the blue color option...

I'm considering an upgrade from my old Droid Incredible, and I love everything I've seen about the the S3... except the color options. I'm leaning toward blue simply because I don't want a white phone, but I'm unsure about it. In many pictures it looks more purple than blue. I checked it out at Best Buy, and it also looked pretty purple-ish there too. Store lighting and photographs can both be misleading though...

So, my question is, how does it look in real life settings? In sunlight, regular lighting, etc.

I'm tempted to just wait for a black one, honestly. Do you think there's any chance of that happening any time soon?
 
I wish there was black too. In sunlight it looks more blue than usual, indoors darker.

I bought a case for mine though so it is all blacked out!

I had the white because I thought the blue was gonna look too purple...and it does but only around the edges. I ended up swapping my white one for a blue one and I'm glad I did. Overall it does look better to me, and with a case on it covering the edges you can't see any of the purple-ish color at all. I'm using the otter box commuter and it looks awesome to me...like a dark mettalic bluish-gray
 
The blue in real life situations mostly looks very "dark/deep blue". Sometimes almost looks grayish black when seeing it off from an angle where direct sunlight isnt reflecting off the phone straight to your eyes. The only thing about the phone that gives the phone a true "purple" visual is the bezel that goes around the side of the phone. If you get a case for it which wraps around and covers the bezel, the phone really looks like a dark phone 99% of the time.

Just took this photo, and its pretty much a good representation of what to expect your phone to look like when its in a case in real life situations as i was describing above

Wow, you literally took the words right out of my mouth and beat me to the punch!! I agree with you 100%, obviously lol...
 
THe blue is kinda a chameleon color, if anyone familiar with cars knows what I'm talking about. Depending on the lighting, I've seen anything from a steel blue, to a dark blue, to a blue with a slight purple hue to it. I went with the blue because the white to me is boring, I never wanted any of the white variants I've seen on a phone. That and the white IMHO with show dirt & wear much quicker than the blue will. But that's just me.
 
the white showing dirt makes zero sense...they both have the same clear coating over the color. but you're right, the white is kinda boring looking...lol

Say you had a dark grease on your hand. Where would it be more apparent, on a light colored surface or a dark colored surface? Obviously it would show more on the light colored surface. With something like flour, the opposite would be true. But mostly dirt is darker, so the darker color would be less apt to show it. The only exception would be a deep gloss black. A color like that shows almost everything. It's no different than with a car.
 
If it were me, and I got dark grease on my phone, I would wipe it off....not leave it there just because it is harder to see. Call me crazy
 
ive been the blue one.. it does lean toward a slightly purple blue but i dont think it looks PURPLE. To me, the back has a slightly metallic look to me. I prefer the white one but the blue looks nice too. I think there's a bunch of cases that enhance the blue. Diztronic has some nice ones. they sell them on amazon.
 
When I got my S3 I fully intended getting the white because all the pictures of the blue made it look nasty.

But seeing it in the flesh I changed my mind and got the blue, in fact I think I would have gotten the blue even if they did it in black:D
 
I am am in the blue camp as well. I thought i wanted the white one untill i saw them in person. I know the only difference is the color but the blue had a more polished quality appearance to my eye. Plus i like something different in a world where black and white are everywhere blue is a welcome addition. The brushed finish does wonders for the appearance if it was just blue plastic it would not look as nice. Just my 2 pennies.

The way the S3 is laid out is the Pebble Blue is on the back cover and on the face above and below the screen. There is a divider between the blue on the face and the back cover. The divider is silver with a bluish hue. The hue may be due to the blue around it. It's actually not a bad cover. I think you can see a fair representation of the color on Verizon's site. Just go to the S3's page and select the blue option and you should be able to get an idea of how it will look.

I would have loved the red one myself, but went with the blue and a red/black case because I needed to get one before that one came out.

Honestly, I'd never get a white one as it would be too likely to show up any scratches or other permanent marks if they happen to occur.

OK, I just got back from Costco looking at a real live S3! :)

The back cover was blue, but on the "face above and below the screen" it was black, glossy black, no question, I even polled the guys in the kiosk and they all agreed so I know it's wasn't my eyes! LOL

Could this be an unknown color configuration? With the black back cover (battery cover) I posted the link to, it will be a solid black phone with the silver divider. Should look great! :D

If that's true, that's the only black s3 in existence...it was the lighting in the store as stated above

Looking at mine right now, the face is very dark, but it's not black. If you look close you can see the same brushed metal look on the face & home button as on the back. I'm not saying that by putting a black cover on the back it'll look bad, since you really have to look to see the blue on the face in most lighting. But I am saying that, at least my phone, is not black on the face.
 
I think I am the only white loving person here. After using a black iphone 3g for 4 years I decided it was time for a color change. Also I prefer white over blue because blue it is not Black nor white, it's like it's struck in between colors. But that's my opinion.
