The HTC 10 getting "Nougat"

I'm pretty sure mine came over yesterday but I had everything auto-update unchecked. I love that even though it is a system update no content will be deleted. Well that's what it says anyway?

It's true, unless something screws up and bricks your phone. (Just kidding) I've had 5 HTC phones and each one went through a major update. None of them got messed up. These updates change the Android operating system. It usually adds new items, replaces old apps and improves things. This one is suppose to let you run two apps side by side on one screen. Truely multitasking. As long as your phone has enough power & memory, it should be fine. Since our "10"s are close to the fastest phones out there, we should be ok. Just be sure your phone is fully charged and anything important is backed up.

Done. 7.0 installed! I'm noticing a few cosmetic changes to the pull down menus and using Nova Launcher I'm not seeing that cool little Google Now slide out but it's early days (Not to mention early morning) yet. I'll tinker around later but I'm posting from the updated 10 now.

Please let us know what you find and how it works.
Thanks

Multi-screen was the first thing I tried. It's as easy as a long press on the square button but all apps don't work with it. Chrome and YouTube no problem but it doesn't work with fbReader or the Amazon Kindle apps. I hope someone finds an e-book reader that does.

With any luck, as more phones get Nougat, the apps will be updated to take advantage of it's new capabilities. On an almost daily basis, I have apps being updated for Nougat compatability. Hopefully, in time, the readers will be too.

Ran into a glitch with phone calls. I was receiving them fine but when I tapped on the solid blue phone icon I got permission denied messages so I removed the solid blue icon and replaced it with the new white/blue icon. Works like a charm now.

Running the Viper Nougat ROM and I'm loving it. It's soooo smooth and my battery life has gotten slightly better. Just a shame that I can't use TWRP anymore ( for now). :p

For some reason looking at the HTC UK website they don't list the HTC 10 as getting an Update. They're on their products page but not the update page. That doesn't make any sense (pardon the pun) to me and the US site doesn't have an update page so I'm not sure how this works or having anything to compare that neglect to.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Unfortunately, they keep running into problems with the update. So far they have stopped the upgrade twice. Who knows how many more times. The only good part is that we have a better chance of getting a bug free upgrade. (I can dream, can't I?)

Exactly, with the issues on the unlocked ones, chances are we will see new HTC phones released before we get the update. HTC is killing me, there is an expectation, which they are not living up to.

I couldn't agree more. Based on everything I've read about the "U", the "10" is my last HTC phone. I love the "10" and the new "U" has none of the outstanding features that HTC developed. The almost unbreakable metal case, replaced with glass. No front facing speakers. (At least the "10" had one and a half) Finally, no earphone Jack or earphone setup app. They were replaced with the USB C port. After years of innovation, they have dug their own grave. And the media has supplied the shovel.

The jury is still out on the U for me. No VZW model may change that though. I like the size, and curious about software improvements. I can forgive about no SD 835 as it was impossible for them to use it, but that battery being no bigger than the 10 is inexcusable.
