The kit kat 4.4 rebellion!

Just checking I'm not replying to a necrobump.

Rather late aren't you mate? That was news in 2013. Anyway what's that phone number for and what's the country code?

Its to google I told them about the problems of 4.4 and they said they would look into it my carrier told me to confront them so they must be the main people and yeah I know I am late but its ridiculous that this has been the same over a year! Google needs to still know this makes us mad!

I'll check into that earlymon and yeah your probably right I just find it awful that google still today gets away with stuff like this

Apparently it was a problem at the time, some apps couldn't freely write to the SD. AFAIK apps have been updated since then to take into account the changes in the way external SD is handled. I've not had any problems with storing photos, music, videos on SD myself with 4.4 Kitkat.

What phone have you got and what apps are you having problems with? If you got a Google Nexus phone, there is no SD storage.

Its glu games also it seems like everything I download uses up all my internal space or cant download cause lack of internal space

That's a separate issue - installing apps to sd cards was first officially supported in Froyo but it was short lived, definitely gone by ICS.

And lazy game programming killed it.

Even with the games on the sd card, most all of them insisted on writing their data (MUCH larger than the games themselves) to internal storage.

Now more expensive phones have more internal storage so they still don't have a reason to conform to anything other than what they've always done.

It sounds more like your complaint is with bad game developers than Google.

You know what I think your right on that one, but how come there all bad? I just want some 3d games to play on my phone why is that such a difficult thing I changed the topic of this post

Because games make up the majority of app sales - if you don't buy them, someone else will.

They don't care because they don't have to, it's more profitable to be less supportive.

There are root solutions that a) have some success, b) not always and not always for every model of phone but c) may be worth investigating if you're willing to go through the trouble.

Check out "Link2SD"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD

And you'll have to go to your phone model's root forum (start on our home page, and look for the "All Things Root" subforum once there) to see if your model can be rooted and if Link2SD will work for you.

Sorry, too many variables, so I make no promises. But that's probably your best bet.

Someone told me that rooting is illegal in my country and I could go to jail for it, I don't think my phone can be rooted anyways just have to hope somebody steps up to the plate and makes 3d games that are done correctly I suppose

Aren't you in the good old US of A?

It's absolutely legal, you cannot go to jail for it, and whoever told you that had no clue what they were talking about.

I promise that as a US site, we are not supporting criminal enterprise with our rooting advice lol. :D

My phone is the zte zinger

FYI it's also known as a ZTE Z667 or ZTE Whirl. A budget to mid-range Chinese phone, only 4GB internal storage. We got no specific forum for it on AF. But might be some rooting or other info over on XDA Devs about it.

FWIW games can be written so they do store their additional downloaded play data on SD, which is often huge, several GB sometimes, but it seems like Glu, Gameloft, EA, et-al, choose not to.

Yeah so its the devs fault so that's why I changed the topic actually it's the whirl 2 it only has 1.27gb of internal

Well yeh, I think so. When you install a game, the APK itself is comparatively small, which contains the game code. That connects to a server to download the additional data that it needs to be playable, which is mostly graphics and sound data, and that can be stored on SD no problem AFAIK, and it only has to load whatever it needs as you progress through the game. Off-line GPS satnav apps work in a similar way, you download an APK, but the mapping data itself is a separate download, China is over 6GB, and they usually have an option to store mapping data on SD.

1.27GB available internal storage, the rest is used for the Android OS and whatever else is stored in system.

I think Gameloft themselves solved the problem of their huge games and low internal storage Chinese phones, which are very popular here of course.

Most game that are available in this country are usually 50MB at the most, small casual type games, things like Flappy Bird, Zuma, Frozen Bubble, puzzle games, etc..and the popular Mahjong games don't take much storage.
