The Note Line

I've seen, twice now, that the Note 9 will be the last of the Note line. I never did look at where the articles came from I just saw them on my Google stories feed. Has anyone else heard this?

Until Samsung announces the end of the Note line, take all these articles with a grain of salt. Many times one website will publish a story based on unconfirmed reports from anonymous sources - and five other sites will pick it up and run with it. Then twenty more will pick up on those... pretty soon, there's a hundred websites all corroborating each other, but based on nothing but one rumor.

Samsung has too much R&D invested in the Note series and S Pen. The NAME might change, I can't imagine why... but I don't see the functionality going anywhere.

The most consistent report I've seen is just quoting a Samsung executive saying that they're toying with the idea of merging the Galaxy S+ line with the Note line. Kind of like back in the days of the S3 where the flagship line up was S3 mini, S3, Note 2. So we're going to have S mini, S, S+ (which has the S Pen).

They're not saying they're going to do it already, they're saying it's just one of the ideas they're toying with since it would help in streamlining RnD costs and whatnot, especially since they're toying with releasing a gaming phone lineup and the folding phone lineup. So it kind of makes sense to just do away with the S+, rename the Note lineup to S+ to just basically slap on the Note extra software onto the results of the S lineup RnD, then divert the Note RnD to either the gaming phone lineup or the folding phone lineup.

However, take a grain of salt with the statement TOYING WITH THE IDEA. They're thinking of it, but actually implementing it is a different matter altogether.

Well, I've seen reports citing that rumor - and for Samsung to overcome the spectre of the Note7 and still have a rabid following of the Note brand, it's difficult for me to see them eliminating the name. They can release all their phones at once annually if they want... but there's just something about the brand name "NOTE" that has conditioned people to understand that it means a powerhouse device with the latest specs and features that can't be found on any other phone. My 2¢ but we'll see what happens!

:)

I seriously doubt the note series is going away anytime soon. It has to big of a following same as the galaxy series. My wife is a die hard note fan. She was one of the first people at her work place to have one. It's her favorite phone hands down.

Well Samsung stated yesterday that there would be a Note 10. They did say that it might not be their top flagship, but that's presumably because they are hoping people will view the foldable phone that way (as opposed to viewing it as an expensive public beta - we'll have to see which is more accurate).

Problem I see with a phone called "Note" is that this marque isn't exclusive to Samsung. As Lenovo, Xiaomi and Meizu all produce phones called "Note". And so Samsung may want to choose something more unique and less generic in the future for their flagship devices

My only question is how they handle 10? They cannot, must not, call it X.

They're going BINARY - it's going to be the Galaxy Note1010

:D

True - the actual name is the Galaxy Note. That separates the Samsung line from every other (wannabe) Note out there.
