Theme creation help please!

Ok so i started getting into theming and i had a few questions that are getting me stuck and endless googling isnt getting the job done and i need your guys help!

Firstly, I am using a mac.

I first download a theme to use as a template.

I extract the update.zip and then extract the framework-res.apk

After i replace my .png images is where i get stuck.

I know i need to re-zip the framework-res.

Do i do this by compressing it into a zip and renaming to .apk? I read i may need to compress for "storage"? If so how would i do this on a mac?

Then i need to sign this. I have an auto signing tool that i think will work. It is drag and drop and its called "sign me" it requires me to have a file called "testsign.jar" in the root of my mac. Will this work or do i need to sign another way?

What all files do i need to sign?

And when i compress the final file do i just do it in a simple update.zip and sign it or do i need to sign it as "storage" as well?

Edit: if worst comes to worst i have windows and linux partitions on my mac

Looking to do the same kind of thing.

I'm using Win7 btw.
So far, I've replaced the files I want in my framework-res.apk by just dragging and dropping them into in when it's opened in WinRAR. It replaces what's there. I don't extract anything or zip as an APK, just leaving it as is.

I did not know about any of this signing stuff, although I'm starting to see more about it as I find more pertinent information.

Does anybody / Can anybody explain the process from here? We seem to be able to get the contents into the APK file.
